Tough Situation in Teaching Union

Teaching union will soon face crisis. Pupils will have to study in big classes, and there are many doubts in teachers qualification.

Stephen Twigg, Shadow Education Secretary, revealed that for 2014-2015 academic year, the system of education would require not less than 15,000 teachers for additional 256,000 children starting school. He worries that such numbers are a real threat for schooling. Nevertheless, the Department for Education named his claims to be ridiculous. However, Mt. Twigg made his announcement after the similar information from the National Audit Office, which warned the government that England needs place for the same amount of pupils named by the Secretary.

The Labour party still urges such a big amount of teachers required, despite the fact that previously there were only 520 vacancies opened. On March 27, during the ATL’s conference held in Liverpool, Mr. Twigg blamed Michael Gove for such a serious situation and for a huge number of unqualified teachers working with pupils. He also said that children would have to study either in too big groups or spend time in classrooms with people who have no teaching qualification. Such circumstances may lead to the decrease of the level of pupil’s knowledge.

Mr. Twigg was really indignant with the fact that free academies and schools are allowed to hire someone who actually doesn’t have a qualified teacher status. He also criticized politicians for not paying attention to moral aspects of teacher’s profession.

At the same moment, a spokesperson of Department of Education claims that that do everything possible to prepare and encourage future teachers, as this profession is considered to be highly attractive. The Department has also spent millions of pounds on developing skills of teachers, that’s why they allow headteachers to hire everyone they think will fit them, even if this is an engineer or a linguist.
